Odessa - Ukraine
How to describe this ancient and magnificent port city on shores of the Black Sea?! With a history as rich as it is tumultuous, architecture as majestic as it is diverse and a local population as multicultural as they are uniformly passionate about their great city. Musician Eugene Slim is no exception! Sneaker fanatic, founder and director of one of the first sneaker stores in Ukraine, and for the next 24 hours, your enthusiastic guide through the streets of Odessa!#eastpak #cityguide #addthestory
6 Gogol Street, Odessa
Without a doubt the most beautiful hostel in the most beautiful part of this most beautiful city!! Step inside the Mayak Hotel and marvel at the magnificent architecture, lavish interiors, high (and decorative!) ceilings and antique fittings. This is the real Odessa of old; the only difference being that the beds are actually super comfy!
Breakfast: Silence espressobar
1A Grecheskaya Street, Odessa
This is a regular stopover for me on the way to work. Grab yourself a delicious sandwich and smoothie either to go or why not stay a while and enjoy the beautiful interior? A tiny oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of the city!
42 Pastera Street, Odessa
An international bookstore – with a difference! You can lose yourself (and find yourself!) in the endless collection of books here on everything from tattoos to kangaroos. (Still looking for a book on kangaroos with tattoos, though. :-)) But you’ll also find original ideas like a book on how to make your own shoes – complete with all the materials you’ll need to make them! In case there was any doubt: the best gift is definitely a book!
Lunch: Cooper Burgers
19 Grecheskaya Street, Odessa
Real burgers, made for real people, from real ingredients (and not the other way around!). The meat comes from a farm just outside the city and together with the freshest of fresh vegetables, herbs and spices, makes for a mouthwatering combination. Nutritious and delicious!
Eastpak store: Slim Store
8 Polska Street, Odessa
I admit it, I have something for shoes. I sell them. I wear them. I photograph them. And every chance I get, I buy them. Which is why there’s a good chance you’ll find me here on any given day of the week! The staff here are extremely knowledgeable and don’t hesitate to tell you all about the history of each brand, the technology behind each model and the aesthetics of each design. If you’re looking for something exclusive, you’ve just found the place to be!
Coffee & Tea: Make my Cake
29 Yevreis'ka Street, Odessa
On one of the oldest streets in town lies ones of its oldest establishments. Step inside and prepare to be overwhelmed by the delicious aromas of freshly brewed coffee and cakes still warm from the oven! Be sure to try the macaroons. They’re to die for!
Museum: Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art
9 Pushkinska Street, Odessa
Odessa is a living museum in its own right. So imagine how amazing its most popular museum must be! Worth a visit simply for the architecture, this is surely one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole city and certainly my personal favorite. Admire the incredibly intricate and original plaster moulds on the walls and ceilings and get ready to go back in time! Even the exhibits themselves are worth a look.
Barber shop: Smoking Spider Tattoo Parlour
33 Dvoryanskaya Street, Odessa
People flock from all over the world – I kid you not! – to visit this famous tattoo studio and barbershop. Search for “Smoking Spider” on Instagram and, in addition to smoking spiders, you’ll find a snapshot of some of the artists’ past work. But even if it’s a simple trim or shave you’re after, you’re sure to walk out a new man!
Bar: Forty Five
1 Katerynyns'ka Square, Odessa
This bar may be located in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. But step inside and you’ll find a calm, secluded and peaceful place where you can totally relax. Sip at a delicious cocktail or grab a refreshing beer and reminisce about a great day in the city!
25 Lanzheron Beach, Odessa
OK, so Odessa may not be the most renowned seaside resort but we do still have a beach! Well, kind of! This unique spot amidst the port has in any case just as much – if not more! – atmosphere. The perfect place to watch the sun set on a perfect day, especially when the night is still young!
